Profiles
To help inform the community about local experts and tree stewards, three interns volunteered to write profiles.
These short, creative nonfiction articles focus on the Buena Vista Tree Board, SVU Biology professor Sam Hirt, and certified arborist Tony Petryszyn.
Each profile includes information about their work, why they find it meaningful, and how it connects to the community.
When the profiles are complete, they will be available for reading from this page.

From the very first day of the internship, the Tree Team wanted to spread the word about BV Cool Trees to increase community awareness about the project.
This flier is based on a brochure designed by the 2024 Tree Team. In their revision process, the interns made sure to keep it simple and eye-catching, including only necessary images and text.
The interns plan to distribute these fliers to local businesses, libraries, schools, and elsewhere. Community members can use the QR code in the bottom right corner to receive trees, become volunteers, or learn more about the BV Cool Trees project.

Tree Care Pamphlet
The interns wanted to support BV community members as they plant and care for new trees, so they designed a pamphlet for those who may be planting young trees on their property. Using information they learned from Boxerwood garden steward Karen Stanley, they included information about placement, mulching, watering, and ongoing care.

Yard Sign
Anyone who plants a tree with BV Cool Trees will receive this yard sign for their lawn, which was designed and revised by the Tree Team interns. They wanted to make the sign eye-catching, compelling, and informative.

Social Media

BV Cool Trees has never had its own social media accounts, so the interns decided to create new pages on Instagram and eventually Facebook.
They wanted to use the popularity of social media to gain a wider range of attention, and in the future they hope to update these accounts with planting news, Tree Board updates, volunteer opportunities, and photos of BV residents with their new trees and yard signs.

Public Outreach Projects
The 2025 Tree Team interns felt strongly about helping their community learn about BV Cool Trees. For this reason, they undertook five public outreach projects:
